Genetic Algorithms and Simulated Annealing

Zengding Bai will discuss less traditional optimization methods that use multiple points to help find global optima. These include genetic algorithms (DE Goldberg, Genetic algorithms in Search, Optimization, and Machine Learning 1-2, Addison-Wesley, Reading, MA, 1989.) and simulated annealing (WH Press, BP Flannery, SA Teukolsky, WT Vetterling, Numerical Recipes 10.12, Cambridge University Press, New York, 1986.). Both methods utilize randomness in different ways to help fully explore the search space.
