IUPUI internship program inspires future STEM educators

INDIANAPOLIS -- Did the big bad wolf actually blow down the three little pigs’ houses? Is Cinderella really the owner of the glass slipper? 

Hannah Caito, a senior forensics and biology student at the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, uses forensic science to make mysteries like these come to life for visitors of all ages at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Kathy Johnson to serve in key position as part of IUPUI leadership transition

INDIANAPOLIS -- Kathy E. Johnson has been selected to serve a one-year term as interim executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer effective Aug. 16. A nationwide search for IUPUI's executive vice chancellor will begin during the 2015-16 academic year.

IUPUI will help U.S. State Department develop policy solutions through Diplomacy Lab

INDIANAPOLIS -- The effort is part of the State Department’s Diplomacy Lab, a program in which faculty and students develop ideas and solutions to policy issues identified by the federal agency.

Launched by Secretary of State John Kerry in 2013, Diplomacy Lab is seeking additional university partners.  IUPUI’s application was recently approved.

INDIANAPOLIS— The graduating class of 2015 consists of 486 bachelor's degree recipients, 152 master's degree recipients and 26 doctoral degree recipients.

Researchers examine how to minimize drought impact on important food crops

INDIANAPOLIS --  In an Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis research paper published today in the journal PLOS ONE, researchers provide information that could help agricultural planning and management to minimize drought-induced yield losses.

Legumes, which include peas, beans, peanuts and alfalfa, are grown in almost every climatic region and are second only to cereals in terms of contribution to food security.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The woman behind the Advancing Women Mentoring Program at IUPUI and the man known as an outspoken advocate for the campus's Women in Science House are the recipients of the 15th annual Dr. Joseph T. Taylor Excellence in Diversity Awards.

Gilhooly invited to Indonesian-American Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium

INDIANAPOLIS -- The symposium series, sponsored by the Indonesian Academy of Sciences, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the U.S. Agency for International Development, gives distinguished young scientists an overview of cutting edge science in a wide-ranging set of disciplines. Attendees are nominated and selected by a committee of NAS members.

Conference seeks to inspire high school girls' interest in in STEM careers

INDIANAPOLIS -- The 135 girls will attend the three-day Girls in STEM MAEOPP Pre-College Student Leadership Conference beginning May 29. The students are from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Eight School of Science Graduate Students Named to IUPUI's Elite 50

INDIANAPOLIS -- Eight School of Science graduate students were honored as an Elite 50, and one placed in the Premier 10, during the ceremony on April 15.

School of Science presents awards at the 41st Annual Honors Convocation

INDIANAPOLIS-- The event honored scholarship winners and outstanding students across all science departments.

Associate Dean of the School of Science and associate professor of biology, Kathy Marrs, served as the mistress of ceremonies. Robert L. Smith, M.B.A., President of the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation and Senior Director of Corporate Responsibility at Eli Lilly and Company provided the keynote address at the ceremony.
